Statements

Artistic Statement
Dance is a passion, art, and lifestyle. It is something that lets us be expressive. Something that lets me showcase who I am, without speaking. I dance to entertain. To create. To connect with my body and understand how it is moving. There's history behind it. The art that has made up so much of our lifestyles today. It is something that has helped me be confident and become open to new ideas. I dance to have fun, to be able to know and be in control of what I'm going to do next. It’s like my body is its own book, and each performance is the next chapter. I grow. I grow to move and to want more. I am always eager to learn and teach new styles, techniques, and tricks.
I enjoy moving to upbeat, bright and funky songs, to songs that make you want to cry, to songs you get mad at, to conversations, etc. I enjoy modern, contemporary, jazz, and hip-hop styles. But my style is more street/jazz funk. I love to be groovy and different with my movement, but still have some fundamental technique in there. I enjoy connecting with my environment and feeling how my body wants to move with it. Whether if that’s with music, words, instructions, or silence.
Dance is my passion, and only up is where I want to move.
Teaching Statement
Teaching is about getting an understanding of technical knowledge of the choreography and the students, the discipline it takes to have patience with yourself and with others, and the skills you are trying to undergo in teaching out to the students. I want to help individuals learn dance to better express one’s emotions, tell a story, to let go and connect with their body in a soulful way. Dancing is an art and a creative expression that I feel anyone is capable of doing. My goal is to create an environment that is welcoming of all, open to ideas, and having confidence in creating what’s fit for one’s body. To have a space for the students/individuals to let loose, forget what’s going on, and explore where their body and mind takes them. This will help in having a better understanding of dance, and movement, and the connection it makes with your body. Not only can I have a specific set choreography, but my space is open to new ideas and collaborations. My technique is jazz, release, modern and street style. I want to help dancers be able to explore outside of their comfort zone and become more freeing and confident in themselves. Dance can bring out passion and endorphins, and that is what I am willing to help bring out from my peers and students.
